The R&D Department of EYDAP SA participates in the European program INTERREG BIGDATA4RIVERS following an invitation from the Attica Region along with the Regional Development Fund.

The activities in which EYDAP SA participated so far are the following:

  • 1st Local Stakeholder's meeting in Athens (13/12/2019)
  • Study visits and partner meeting in Athens, Greece (22-23/01/2020)
  • 2nd Local Stakeholder Meeting in Athens, Greece (22/06/2020)

EYDAP contributes to this program by proposing the use of autonomous robotic boats for catchment water quality monitoring, a technology developed in the framework of INTCATCH Horizon 2020 project.

The BIGDATA4RIVERS project aims to go forward in the water directives implementation proposing the promotion of a smart water management. The overall objective of the project is to exchange experiences & good practices between partners in the field of the efficiency of the water systems, to adapt those good practices, to apply the lessons learned to each partner’s reality through the development of individual action plans & to promote their application through the partners’ policy instruments (Source: https://www.interregeurope.eu/bigdata4rivers/)

Reference was made to the technology used by autonomous robotic boats, the benefits offered by this method of surface water monitoring, the results of campaigns as well as possible future opportunities for the use of technology.

Finally, in the context of this collaboration, INTCATCH was selected as one out of two good practices, with a view to its future use. It provided important information as a water management policy, improving water catchment monitoring quality, as well as for easier fulfillment of the requirements of European Directives.
