INTCATCH 2020 presentation in Pamvotis lake
05 June 2019, Ioannina, Greece
On Wednesday, June 5th, in the context of the World Environment Day, a demonstration of EYDAP's autonomous boats took place at Lake Pamvotida, Ioannina. The presentation, was organized by Athens Water Supply and Sewerage Company (EYDAP S.A.) and the Management Body of Lake Pamvotida (M.B.L.P.). The demonstration was attended by representatives of the local authorities, the Management Body of Lake Pamvotida and local media. The aim was to inform stakeholders on the necessity of the management, monitoring and protection of surface water in Greece in conjunction with the tools and services developed in the INTCATCH program and how these could be applied in different cases.
The demonstration proved that the INTCATCH boats can provide reliable real-time results of the surface water quality in terms of key physicochemical parameters; the boats are equipped with high end sensors including a chlorophyll sensor and an ISA optical analyzer for the determination of NH4, BO3, NO4, CODs expressed as equivalents (eq). EYDAP's cooperation with the Management Body of Lake Pamvotida, can lead to better control of the lake's quality, identifying potential contamination by anthropogenic activities or natural processes in time through the implementation of a comprehensive surface water monitoring program.
